Social Coherence
Social coherence is the dynamic state in which individuals, communities, and systems operate in harmony – aligned in purpose, understanding, and values—while still allowing for diversity and difference. It’s not uniformity, but synchrony. A kind of cognitive and emotional resonance at scale, where communication flows openly, conflicts are metabolised constructively, and collective action becomes possible.
It emerges when there is a shared narrative, a mutual sense of trust, and an infrastructure – technological, cultural, ethical – that supports collaboration across boundaries. In a society with high coherence, systems feel alive rather than brittle. Complexity doesn’t fragment – it integrates.
